The Effects of Multidisciplinary Intensive Rehabilitation on Cognitive and Executive Functions in Parkinson’s Disease

This study explores the transformative effects of a 6-week multidisciplinary intensive rehabilitation program on cognitive functioning in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients. A total of 104 PD patients participated in the program, which included daily sessions of muscle relaxation, aerobic exercise, and occupational therapy. Patients were categorised by disease severity, subtype, duration, and presence of dyskinesias. Cognitive abilities were assessed with striking results: patients showed significant improvements in cognitive performance, with many achieving normal scores by the end of the program. This study highlights the powerful potential of intensive rehabilitation to boost cognitive health in PD patients and enhance their quality of life.
