Adding Value to Care Through Live Bedside Music

Elderly patients are more prone to complications due to ageing. Nursing care, crucial for post-surgery recovery, emphasises nonpharmacological interventions in older patients. Live music, historically known for promoting well-being, was studied by Van der Wal-Huisman in hospital care for older surgical patients. Collaborating with trained musicians, live music at patients’ bedside showed positive effects on pain reduction and the autonomic nervous system. Results support the integration of live music into healthcare, aligning with the evolving emphasis on human values in the healthcare sector.
