Essential Frequently Asked Information

Ideally, immediately upon diagnosis. Research shows that “Pre-hab” (early-stage intervention) leverages neuroplasticity to “rewire” the brain before symptoms become severe.

We have LSVT-trained therapists in Singapore so we should take advantage of that by starting therapy early with our specialists. Then, you can build a movement “buffer” that significantly slows the progression of motor decline and maintains independence for years longer.

  • Early stage: Focuses on building strength, balance, and voice projection to delay symptom progression. LSVT BIG (for movement) and LSVT LOUD (for speech) help maintain function before significant decline.
  • Mid-stage: Targets falls prevention, freezing episodes, and swallowing safety. Occupational therapists adapt daily routines, while physiotherapists work on mobility strategies.

  • Advanced stage: Prioritizes comfort and safety—like bed transfers or communication aids. Palliative rehab helps maintain dignity and reduces caregiver strain.

The key is starting early: research shows those in regular therapy reduce medication doses by 20-30% and experience slower functional decline.

No. In fact, practicing these high-intensity movements in your actual living environment—like your own kitchen or bedroom—is often more effective for long-term retention.

Lifeweavers is a pioneer in delivering LSVT-informed therapy at home across Singapore. This removes “travel fatigue,” allowing the patient to focus their energy entirely on the intensive exercises where they matter most.

Yes. Many patients experience hypophonia (a soft, breathy voice) and dysphagia (swallowing difficulties). Our Speech Therapists use LSVT LOUD® principles to restore vocal volume and confidence. Simultaneously, we conduct swallowing safety assessments to reduce the risk of choking or aspiration pneumonia, ensuring meal times remain safe and social.

While PT focuses on “Global Movement” (gait, balance, and stride), our Occupational Therapists focus on “Functional Independence.” This includes fine motor skills like handwriting and buttoning shirts, as well as cognitive strategies to manage “brain fog.”

At Lifeweavers, your OT and PT work on a coordinated plan so that the strength gained in PT is immediately applied to daily life by the OT.

Picture two paths:

  • Without Rehab: Mary, 70, avoided therapy. She now uses a walker, chokes on thin liquids, and was hospitalized twice for falls. Her caregiver is exhausted.
  • With Rehab: John, 70, does LSVT BIG/LOUD yearly. He gardens, travels, and cut his Parkinson’s meds by 25%. His falls dropped 40% after PT’s balance drills.

Data shows rehab users halve hospitalization rates and report 30% higher life satisfaction. It’s not just movement – it’s sustaining joy in daily living.

‘Freezing of Gait’ (FOG) is the temporary, involuntary inability to move your feet, often described as feeling ‘glued to the floor.’ It is a common cause of falls in Singapore homes, especially during transitions like walking through doorways or turning in the kitchen. Our specialized Parkinson’s physiotherapy uses rhythmic cueing, visual targets, and cognitive strategies to ‘unstick’ the brain’s motor signals. Because we offer RehabEverywhere™, our therapists can train you in the exact spots where you experience freezing, providing real-world safety that clinic-only sessions cannot replicate.

With Parkinson’s Rehab, it’s a constant dialogue between the medical and the rehab team:

  • Medication timing: Therapists sync sessions with “on” periods (when meds peak) for optimal movement. They alert neurologists if tremors worsen during exercise.

  • Data sharing: Balance tests (like Berg Scale) or speech recordings show doctors tangible progress, guiding medication tweaks.

  • Holistic alerts: OTs spot depression signs; STs flag swallowing risks – triggering faster specialist referrals.

  • Teamwork Prevents Gaps: A missed dysphagia risk can lead to pneumonia, for example.
