Healthful and Unhealthful Plant-Based Diets and Risk of Breast Cancer in US Women: Results from the Nurses’ Health Studies

Consuming healthful plant-based diets is linked to a lower risk of diseases, including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular issues, but the connection to breast cancer remains unclear. A recent study established a significant association between a nutritious plant-based diet and a reduced risk of total breast cancer, particularly for ER-negative tumours. This link is held independently of factors such as carotenoid intake, dietary fibre, and weight changes. The findings support dietary guidelines recommending an increased intake of healthy plant-based foods for effective breast cancer prevention.
