The Role of Occupational Therapy in Community Development to Combat Social Isolation and Loneliness

The study investigates the social participation needs of older men, as most social participation activities attract women. Qualitative methods, including interviews and workshops, were used, with input from community organisations and older men. Findings suggest that intergenerational engagements and suitable environments benefit men, but there is a lack of appropriate local spaces. Occupational therapists could play a vital role in community development, ensuring inclusive environments for all individuals to connect and thrive.
