Empowering Older Adults Against Falls

Falls, particularly resulting from slips, pose a substantial global health risk, especially for older adults. This perspective highlights the prevalent focus on leg strengthening in current physical therapy practices for fall prevention. However, emerging literature suggests the crucial role of arms in maintaining balance during slips. The article reviews human movements during slips, discusses existing fall-prevention protocols, and proposes integrating arm abductor training to enhance fall responses in older adults.
